What are you trying to accomplish
Can someone please point me to the documentation on how to change the default button text color?
No matter what I do the text color is always a light blue. Thanks!

You can locate the feature to change the button background in the Styles tab while the button layer is selected. Please see the following video.
Please also see the linked page, below, which has a number of tutorials that touch upon the Styles tab.

After more research I found it was an issue with not apply bootstrap classes. Thank you.
