Before your update (that I think was on Aug 14th) I was able to build amazing, powerful prototypes and still had credits left in my subscription to use. Now with your credit consumption strategy within 2 days of typing a few prompts I consumed almost the half of the credits of my month (in other words, in just 2 days I consumed 200 credits out of 500). I don’t understand why did that happen? This does not work for me and my team’s use case. Basically what you are telling me with this is that if I apply a few more prompts today I will consume ALL my credits and I have to wait more than 25 days to use it again. I need help to understand how the consumption works to define if Builder is an app I can work with or not. Right now the math is not mathing
Hello @Mariaberrocal
Thank you for sharing your feedback—I completely understand how this change may feel different from your earlier experience. Let me explain how our new Agent Credit system works and why you may have noticed higher consumption.
We recently moved to Agent Credits, which serve as Builder’s unified usage metric for generative AI operations across the platform. Each Agent Credit represents a fixed dollar value that covers both the underlying model costs and Builder’s service margin.
Why usage-based credits work:
-
Simplicity: One single currency for all AI operations.
-
Transparency: You can clearly see how model costs translate into credits.
-
Flexibility: Credits can roll over and be pooled across your team, giving you more control over usage.
The formula for calculating cost is:
**Credit Cost = Pass Through LLM Token Cost × (1 + 0.25 margin)
**
We are also constantly working on fine-tuning the system to ensure that credit consumption is as efficient as possible, so that your usage is minimized while still maintaining quality.
You can read more about Agent Credits in our documentation here:
https://www.builder.io/c/docs/agent-credits
I hope this helps clarify why you’re seeing a different consumption pattern compared to before. Please let me know if you’d like me to walk you through your specific usage in more detail—I’ll be happy to help ensure the plan works best for your use case.
Thanks,
@Mariaberrocal I’m a PM at Builder, and wanted to let you know about a few updates that should help you and your team with the new credits system.
Since releasing the new agent credits system two weeks ago we have worked to make the following improvements based on feedback like yours:
-
Fusion is now optimized and more efficient - dropping credit consumption by 20-30% while preserving quality output and responses
-
you can now choose from a variety of models for interactions - some costing half as many credits as the default model
-
you can now clearly see how many credits were charged when a response is returned by hovering over the “more info” icon located over the chat box in Fusion
In addition to these updates, we are continuing to make Fusion better everyday in order to increase its value to you and all of our other users.
If there’s anything else I can help address, I’m definitely happy to - both in terms of feedback on this credit system or in general.
