New Credit System – Costs Too High and Still Deducts When It Says "No Credit Charge"

Hi everyone,

I wanted to bring up something I noticed after the latest update to the credit system.

Recently, I tried generating just three small code snippets – nothing complex – and it already used up 50 credits. That’s way too much compared to before.

What’s more frustrating is that the system sometimes shows a message saying “this action will not count towards your credit”, yet credits are still deducted. This makes it hard to trust the displayed information and to plan usage properly.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
If this is a bug, I hope the team can fix it soon. If it’s intentional, I think it needs to be rebalanced – right now it feels overpriced for the amount of content generated.

Would love to hear if others have similar issues or found any workarounds.

Hi @huaduyminh ,

Would you be able to provide us with your Public API Key so we can look into this for you?

Thanks.

I couldn’t agree more, were using it in the middle of my project and suddenly it jumped from 120 credits over multiple projects over 3-5 days to 500 in minutes? and generated nothing? Paying 30$ to get a few snippets of code is just unfair and wrong..

Too crazy, that’s a scam. I think builder.io should review their skills, that’s too harmful to users.

The credit system before could still work but now 30$ without any value…

Hello I’m Adam, one of the Product Managers at Builder. I’m sorry that you ran into issues with the new credits system. I know our support team has been helping users as issues come up - whether in forums like these or via direct contact.

There’s definitely no ill-intentions here when it comes to pricing and usage. We want you to get lots of value from the product, and to use it daily for all of your projects. The goal of usage-based pricing has been to provide a more transparent, understandable approach that you can have a direct effect on via prompting and provided context.

Early on (which this post was created right after we released updated pricing) we did experience some errors around the UI not displaying the number of credits correctly and some users being charged for runtime errors caused by Fusion where they were not previously charged for those. We have addressed issues like that since then, and you should not continue to run into them. Please let us know if you do.

Since releasing this a few weeks ago we have worked to make the following improvements based on feedback like yours:

  • Fusion is now optimized and more efficient - dropping credit consumption by 30%+ while preserving quality output and responses
  • users can now choose from a variety of models for interactions - some costing half as many credits as the default model
  • users can now clearly see how many credits were charged when a response is returned by hovering over the “more info” icon located over the chat box in Fusion

In addition to these updates, we are continuing to make Fusion better everyday in order to increase its value to you and all of our other users. If there’s anything else I can help address, I’m definitely happy to - both in terms of feedback on this credit system or in general.

Could you specify how to see the credit usage? Because I’ve sent 5 prompts today, 1 was cancelled right after sending, and 2 were simple clarifying questions which didn’t edit any code, and somehow I have used 56 today, and I would like to check which prompts are using high amounts, but can not seem to find the more info icon?

Consumption can be found in the menu, as follow:

If you’d like to see the credits used for each AI prompt, you can view this in the Chat tab. Each prompt has a menu (three vertical dots), where you can check the credits consumed per message.

Note: This information is only available per session. Once the session expires, it will no longer be accessible. However, we are actively working on making this data persist for future reference.
